Loving Our Way Home: A Memoir of Transcendence  is a story few would have the courage to tell. It begins as a scary childhood tale of violence, fear and darkness drowning in alcohol and doubt. It ultimately becomes one of strength and courage, growth into self-confidence and self-love, then transformation and transcendence.

O’Hara’s ability to retain and retell the details of his earliest years, including his senses of individuals and particulars in his life brings his experiences alive and fully present. The reader can see, feel, smell, taste and hear the people and circumstances that shaped his life. They are not just descriptions. They are alive and present in every sense. You will know them and feel them personally.

The first half of his story is astoundingly compelling, much like reading a very scary novel. It screams: “Just one more chapter before I stop!” You want to help Hunter and his sister escape the hidden darkness that imprisons them. It begged for a second half with unicorns, glitter, smiles and love to escape this world! And that he delivers as well.

It is amazing how many really small things are common in all our lives. Alcohol was not a factor for me, but the “southern culture” and “bible belt” environment that surrounded Hunter had its impact on me as well. By the time I was fourteen, I consciously rejected all of that and never incorporated its shame, guilt or fear. So many did not, even today. O’Hara’s story shows you how to escape and become who you truly are.

This is quite an amazing story told by an excellent writer. He has an incredible and valuable life to share with others. It will enlighten many who are lost and help them to see hope for transformation from their own darkness. LOVE WINS! and so does Hunter O’Hara and those he loves!"
